About diskspace and bandwidth quotas (Pro hosting accounts only)
Our Pro web hosting accounts apply a hard disk storage quota, which restricts the amount of data you are able to store on the server, and a bandwidth quota, which restricts the amount of data you are able to transfer to and from the server. The size of these quotas matches the size of the hosting account you ordered. So, for example if you're on a plan with 5Gb of space, that means you have 5Gb of disk space on the server to use. Similarly, if you're on a plan with 50Gb of bandwidth, that means you can transfer up to 50Gb of data to and from the server, each month.
For more information on the operation of the diskspace and bandwidth quotas, please refer to the following Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: How is the diskspace quota calculated?
A: The diskspace quota is calculated against ALL data on the filesystem associated with your account. This includes all your website(s), database(s) and mailbox(es), and also any other files found under your home directory (such as webstats, backups, or files you upload with FTP).
Q: How can I monitor my diskspace usage?
A: Your diskspace usage is viewable via your control panel. Click XXX then YYY #### to see. You can also view usage per-directory by using the file manager (true? #####). You will be emailed alerts as you approach your limit.
Q: What happens when diskspace usage reaches maximum?
A: Your website will likely malfunction, and emails to you will probably bounce. You may not be able to send email or upload with FTP. You may experience database corruption. If you have scripts or services running on your site which write data to disk, these scripts or services will not be able to save their data. To fix the problem, either a) purchase more diskspace quota, or b) login with FTP and delete some data. If you find that you need additional diskspace quota, please contact us to obtain an upgrade for your account.
Q: How is the bandwidth quota calculated?
A: The bandwidth quota is calculated against ALL traffic associated with your account, over any of the following protocols:
- HTTP (web)
- IMAP (email)
- POP3 (email)
- SMTP (email)
These protocols include all traffic to and from your website(s) and mailbox(es).
Q: How can I monitor my bandwidth usage?
A: Your bandwidth usage is viewable via your control panel. Please see locating bandwidth usage information for details. You will be emailed alerts as you approach your limit.
Q: What happens when bandwidth usage reaches maximum?
A: Your website will be replaced with a "bandwidth exceeded" notice. If excessive bandwidth usage continues, your account will be temporarily suspended. To fix the problem, either a) purchase more bandwidth quota, or b) wait for the quota to reset. You might also look into ways of reducing your bandwidth usage. You can use the bandwidth stats in your control panel to narrow down, identify and fix the source of excessive bandwidth usage. If you cannot find and fix the source of the problem, please contact us, as we may be able to provide extra information that may assist. If you find that you need additional bandwidth quota, please contact us to obtain an upgrade for your account.
Q: When does the bandwidth quota reset?
A: The bandwidth quota resets at the beginning of each month.
Note: these quotas are not to be confused with your mailbox quota. Please see IMAP mailbox management for details on this.
