About diskspace quotas (regular hosting accounts only)

  knowledgebase  :: network status

Our regular web hosting accounts apply a hard disk storage quota, which restricts the amount of data you are able to store on the server. The size of the quota matches the size of the hosting account you ordered. So, for example if you're on a 200Mb plan, that means you have 200Mb of disk space on the server to use.

If your quota is exceeded, you will be unable to upload data (using FTP) until you have freed enough space to hold it. Also, if you have scripts or services running on your site which write data to disk, you should ensure to retain enough free space for these, as if your quota is exceeded, these scripts or services will not be able to save their data.

Mailboxes have their own individual quotas; mail delivery is not affected by the diskspace quota. If you exceed your diskspace quota, you will be able to continue to send and receive mail as normal.

Databases are not affected by the diskspace quota. If you exceed your diskspace quota, you will be able to continue to read and write to your databases as normal.

If you have exceeded your diskspace quota, you should login to your webspace with FTP and delete some files. If you find that you need additional space, please contact us to obtain an upgrade.

Your quota and current space usage are shown in the Account Details section of your website control panel. In your control panel, on the Account Details page, the first detail listed is "Web-space usage", like this:

Web-space usage	:	3MB / 100MB

This is your diskspace usage. The above information is showing a 100Mb quota, with 3Mb used.

Note: this quota is not to be confused with your mailbox quota. Please see IMAP mailbox management for details on this.
