Network Issues: Storm/FTP2: What to do if your site still appears to be offline
October 8, 2018 12:14 pm

Due to the Denial Of Service issues we had to change the IP address of the Storm/FTP2 server.

If your web-site is hosted on the Storm/FTP2 server and still appears to be offline, it is likely you use external name servers and you will need to update the IP address to the following:

83.223.106.41

If you need further help please contact Support.

Network Issues ***RESOLVED***
October 7, 2018 11:49 pm

This is an update on the network issues experienced tonight, it was caused we now know by a large DDOS attack on the server storm/FTP2 which is one of our shared hosting servers. We became aware of the  issue about 17:45 BST today and notified the data centre, they informed us that they were being affected by large DDOS attack but we weren’t part of it and they hoped to block it soon.

Due to some issues on their side they didn’t find the affected IP till 19:38 BST which is when most sites and servers came back online apart from storm which was found to have been affected. The data centre should have found IP being attacked much faster so we will be working with them so it doesn’t take this long and an affected IP can be taken offline so it no longer caused issues to other servers.

By 22:20 BST we finished putting our DDOS mitigation plan in place on storm/FTP2 and all sites should now be online.

This was a very rare event but we will be looking at our plans and talking to the data centre on how these types of event are handled. The size of the attack was extremely large at 60Gbits, this was someone trying to take a site offline using large amounts of junk traffic from hacked servers. We do have firewalls and things in place for DDOS attacks but due to the size these couldn’t deal with it and it required the IP being hit to be removed to stop the flow of traffic.

We have now put in place 100Gbit protection for all sites on storm/FTP2 but currently the attack has stopped and traffic looks normal.

Please accept our apologies for this downtime and if you have any queries or are still seeing any issue let us know.

Network Issues ***UPDATE***

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Network Issues ***UPDATE***
7:02 pm

We have had an update from the networking team at the data centre and this issues is related to another company in the same data centre having a  large DDOS attack and this has caused major network issues.

They are working hard to get things back to normal and we hope to have it resolved soon.

Sorry for any inconvenience cased.

Network Issues ***UPDATE***
