Adding a POP3 account to your webhosting service
This procedure specifies how to create a new POP3 account for use with your domainname, hosted on our server.
- allocate username and password (see our selection of password strategies)
- note the username and password in a secure location
- login to the website control panel
- click the 'Email Control' tab
- next to your domainname, click the 'Mailboxes' link
- click 'Add Mailbox'
- complete username and password fields
- click 'Next Step'
- send test email
- check mailbox for test email
The following details will need to be provided to the client email software:
- email address: username@yourdomain.com
- POP3 (inbound) server: mail.yourdomain.com
- SMTP (outbound) server: smtp.yourisp.com
- username: username-yourdomain-com
- password: as specified above
Note: If your account includes spam and virus protection, you should use the hosted SMTP server address in the SMTP server address box.
Note: If you receive a message "mailbox already exists" when you try and create a mailbox, but you cannot see it listed in the list of mailboxes, check the Redirects (forwards) screen. It's not possible to create a mailbox with the same name as a redirect.
Note also, that those are hyphens in the username. The username is essentially your email address, with the @ sign and all fullstops replaced by hyphens. If your address was joe@bloggs.com, your username would be joe-bloggs-com.
